A New Story

From black wolf wallpapers

My story ‘Where Souls Go’ has just appeared in Red Rose Review, under the inadvertent pen name of Patricia Browne.

This the most mannered story I’ve ever written.  It’s one of the stories from my work in progress, and in the novel it’s told by a bard — so I tried to make it hifalutin.  It was also influenced by Greer Gilman‘s magical prose.

I took a long time to send this story out because I thought it was too edgy. But of all the stuff I’ve written, it’s one of two stories that were accepted with enthusiasm by the first place I sent it to.  Both of those were highly mannered, by my standards, and I had my doubts about them.

Who knows — maybe my niche in literature is as a modern mannerist?  I could get used to having my stories accepted on the first try.  And I have to admit, I like a  mannered story myself.  I’m very fond of this one by Sofia Samatar.

Happy reading!
