Adrenal Corticotrophic Hormone will stimulate the Adrenal Cortex, the part of the adrenal that makes steroid hormones. It makes Aldosterone, Cortisol, and Testosterone. The hypothalamus and pituitary are trying to keep one of these hormones at a stable value by turning the adrenal cortex on and off. But which one? Aldosterone is a poor choice for two reasons. First, you know that aldosterone secretion can be controlled by the renin-angiotensin pathway. Second, you don't want to keep aldosterone levels stable! They have to go up and down depending on how hydrated the body is. |

Try the question again. Which of the three adrenal
cortex hormones is most likely to be controlled by ACTH from the anterior
pituitary? |
