Digestion

The large intestine reabsorbs electrolytes, which are solutes. Water from the intestinal contents will follow the solutes into the blood. This is why your stools are relatively dry. People who have no large intestines produce very watery stool... And with this, we have reached the other end of the digestive tract! You should be able to add additional information from your book to this simple picture of digestion. For instance, you should be able to add the brush border enzymes and the ducts from the pancreas and the gall bladder. You shoud be able to tell where bile comes from. And you should be able to explain what fats and carbohydrates are broken down into, and how they are transported into the blood. |
