Red Blood Cells have two sets of important cell surface antigens.

The first is the ABO system. These cell surface proteins come in two types: A and B.

A cell with type A antigens is 'Type A'

A cell with type B antigens is 'Type B'

A cell with some type A antigens and some type B ones is 'Type AB'

A cell with no type A antigens and no Type B antigens is 'Type O' (you can think of it as zero antigens)
